Oh my god, okay it’s happening. Everybody stay calm.
The popular YouTube radio station ‘lofi hip hop radio – beats to relax/study to’ is currently unavailable for the first time in nearly 2.5 years.
If you thought that was bad enough, there’s more. Its sister station, ‘lofi hip hop radio – beats to sleep/chill to’ has also been struck down in the prime of its life, after nearly 130 million hours of constant streaming.
Where there should be zen beats rests an ominous silence. How am I meant to carry on my working hours without the sweet, lilting tunes from Lofi Girl? How am I meant to manage 99 Problems without my stand-in therapist? What will send me off to an uneasy slumber, where I dream of performance spreadsheets and viral videos?
The words ‘This live stream recording is not available’ haunt me every waking minute. Why have the YouTube Gods forsaken us? Well, according to the Twitter support line for YouTube, it’s been taken down due to false copyright strikes.
The lofi radios have been taken down because of false copyright strikes, hopefully @YouTubeCreators @YouTube will sort this quickly… pic.twitter.com/X01hL6jT2N— Lofi Girl (@lofigirl) July 10, 2022
Whilst Team YouTube have promised to bring our national icon back within 48 hours, there’s a certain bittersweet sorrow in seeing those two timers come to an uneasy end.
confirmed the takedown requests were abusive & terminated the claimants account 😔 we’ve resolved the strikes + reinstated your vids – it can sometimes take 24-48 hours for everything to be back to normal! so sorry this happened & thx for your patience as we sorted it out ❤️🩹— TeamYouTube (@TeamYouTube) July 11, 2022
With nearly 800 million views over their entire lifetime (former downtime included) and over 40,000 minutes live, I think the star of the show Mr Peanutbutter speaks for all of us…
(PS: If you haven’t watched Bojack Horseman, take my inane ramblings as your sign to do so)
Lofi Girl, take a study break. You deserve it queen.
