Broke Grad Student Saves Neglected Dog From Horrific Conditions

This woman is a hero.

For the vast majority of us, seeing an animal in pain or mistreated is unbearable. Luckily, there are some incredible people in the world who go out of their way to save animals in need.

A ‘broke grad student’ by the name of Maddy has recently told the story of how she rescued her gorgeous pit, Rose, to The Dodo.

Rose’s former-owner was a man who kept her in a crate, often without food or water. Maddy, who met him as he was the roommate of her friend, explained that she told the man that he needed to treat the dog better, or find her a new home.

She later visited again, being let into the apartment by her friend, to find that he had ‘skipped town’, leaving Rose with no food or water, and still locked in her crate.

When she was let out, apparently she was weak from being malnourished, but she managed to wag her tail and give Maddy a few kisses.

At that moment, Maddy decided to take her, and risk being pulled up by the police for ‘stealing’ his dog. However, he never pressed charges. Initially, she wanted to simply foster Rose, but in the end she fell in love with her.

Now, she says that Rose ‘loves to eat’, and will often bark at her new mother if she doesn’t feed her exactly on time.

She recently posted, saying: “YIKES cheesy post incoming. People say she’s lucky I found her and that she’s lucky I kept her and that she’s the lucky one. This girl has been there with me the last five years through everything, happily giving me kisses, making me laugh, and teaching me so much about dog behavior, myself, and unconditional love. She moved across the country with me (not like she had a choice, but her well being and happiness was a top concern of mine when deciding to move) and settled into our new life without skipping a beat,

“She has (mostly) moved beyond her traumas and sees the world as the not quite so scary place it actually is…full of friends who want nothing more than to love on her and give her treats. She has been patient as I figured out how to best advocate for her happiness and resilient as I most assuredly messed up completely. She’s been there through happy times, sad times, and normal boring times. She has been nothing but herself and I wouldn’t change a thing. Thanks for making me the lucky one, Rosie girl.”

Rose’s Instagram account has an impressive 35k followers (at the time of writing). The pictures show how much she loves her new life, far away from the crate.
